Reviewing Last Week
The Utes finished the UNLV Softball Classic with a 2-3 record-all three losses were to ranked opponents. Utah rallied in the seventh inning to grab a 4-3 victory over Cal Poly in the opening game. The second game saw Utah lose a 4-1 lead and eventually the game (9-5) to then-No. 22 Oregon State. Utah fell to two ranked opponents on Saturday in then-No. 17 LSU (2-0) and then-No. 13 DePaul (2-1). The Utes concluded the tournament with a 10-2 victory over UC Riverside on Sunday.
Glennis Donnelly led Utah at the plate, going 9-of-15 with four doubles and six RBI. Brianna Gourdin and Samantha Schroeder each picked up a victory for Utah, while Heather Bowlin tossed a strong game against LSU and Melissa Oakes threw well against DePaul though both were losses.
At The Plate
Utah competes in the Palm Springs Tournament this weekend in Palm Springs, Calif. Hosted by Oregon State, the tournament will feature several ranked teams. Utah will open play on Friday at 12:30 p.m. with Notre Dame, which is receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Coaches polls. Later that day, the Utes face Coastal Carolina. On Saturday, Utah will battle No. 12/18 Tennessee at 10:30 a.m. before facing Boston College at 1:00 p.m. The Utes conclude play on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. against Bethune-Cookman. All times are Pacific Standard Time.

"This will be our second taste of teams ranked in the top 30. This weekend will be another opportunity for us to show what we've got.
"We are looking forward to getting our athletes back on dirt. We are playing aggressive and with fiestiness, which should serve us well in the long run.
"Last weekend we made some adjustments with our pitchers and hitters. Our hitters got to see some very good pitchers last weekend. This weekend will be the same challenge."

Utah leads the Mountain West Conference in slugging percentage (.551) and is second in batting average (.284), on base percentage (.360), runs scored (50), RBI (45), doubles (17) and total bases (134). The pitching staff ranks second with a 2.81 ERA.
Donnelly Decor
Glennis Donnelly leads the league in batting average (.621), slugging percentage (1.379), on base percentage (.656), runs scored (11), hits (18) and doubles (17), and is tied for the league lead in home runs (5). The senior hit .600 over the Utes' five games at the UNLV Softball Classic last weekend with a home run, four doubles and six RBI.
Quintero Quips
Utah freshman Devina Quintero has a league-high 13 RBI and is tied with teammate Glennis Donnelly for the league lead with five home runs. Quintero ranks second in batting average (.444) and slugging percentage (1.000).
Gourdin Gabbing
Utah hurler Brianna Gourdin is 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA this season. The sophomore earned a victory over UC Riverside last weekend, in which she did not allow an earned run. Her three wins is tied for second-most in the league.
On Deck
Utah has a bye weekend before traveling to Lawrence, Ka., for the Hampton Inn/Jayhawk Classic, March 5-7.
