THIS WEEK:
Utah enjoys a bye week before it plays five games next week. The break should be good for the Utes to heal and get rested. Texie Criddle is recovering from a broken finger, while Jackie Wong is battling a foot injury.
COMING UP:
The Utes (7-19) open play at Ute Field on Tuesday, March 30, as they host Utah State (3-18). Utah begins league play when it hosts UNLV in a doubleheader match up on Friday, April 2 beginning at 1:30 p.m., followed by a doubleheader against San Diego State on Saturday, April 3 at noon.
THE LAST TIME OUT: Utah struggled in Honolulu, Hawaii, where it went 0-4 at the Hawaii Invitational. Utah fell to No. 3 California (8-3), Hawaii (9-3), No. 25 Northwestern (12-3) and No. 21 Texas (13-6). The Utes did beat Tokyo in an exhibition game, 2-0.
DONNELLY HONORED:
Senior Glennis Donnelly, who leads the league with a .476 average, was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on March 23. Donnelly boasted an impressive .769 percentage at the plate after going 10-of-13 against three ranked opponents and Hawai'i at the Hawai'i Invitational. The senior knocked three home runs and a double, while driving in five runs and scoring five herself. The St. Louis, Mo., native is riding an eight game hitting streak.
UTE NOTABLES:
Utah looks to start over as the conference season begins. The Utes have struggled this season, posting a 7-19 overall record. Thirteen of the Utes' losses are to top 25 opponents. Utah ranks last in the league in batting average (.228), ERA (3.93) and fielding percentage (.935).
Utah ranks second in the MWC with 28 home runs. Keep in mind league-leader Colorado State has five more home runs, but has also played five more games than Utah.
