Utah closes out home play this weekend as it hosts Colorado State and New Mexico in league doubleheaders. The battle with the Rams will take place on Friday, April 30 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Then, on Saturday, May 1, the Utes and Lobos play at noon. The Utes will be honoring their three seniors on Saturday immediately following the second game against New Mexico.
PREVIEWING THE GAME:
Utah enters the game with a 16-26 overall record, while UVSC is 18-15 on the year. Utah defeated UVSC 8-5 in the two teams' first meeting on April 6 at Ute Field. After falling behind 1-0 in the game, Utah pounded out five runs in the fourth. Melissa Stahnke ripped a two-run single to get the Utes going in the inning, before eventually scoring on a single by teammate Devina Quintero. Quintero would then cross the plate off a shot over the fence by Ivette Hernandez to put Utah up 5-1. In the sixth, Utah added three more runs. The first two looked like deja vu as Hernandez would homer with Quintero on base. The final run came off a solo shot by Kate Nygaard. UVSC would score four in the top of the seventh to make it an 8-5 final.
