SALT LAKE CITY - Nick Jacobson, who finished his career tied for 10th in career scoring and first in three-pointers at Utah, has been signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers to play on their summer league team.
Joining the squad as a free agent, Jacobson is one of 15 players on the Cavaliers' roster. The 6-4, 206-pound guard from Fargo, N.D., scored 1,618 points during his career and made 287 three-pointers. As a senior, Jacobson was named first team NABC All-District 13, USBWA All-District VIII, first team all-Mountain West Conference and the MWC Tournament MVP. Jacobson ranked 16th in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage (43.6) and 25th in three-point field goals per game (3.00) last season. He ranked fourth in the Mountain West in scoring (16.5 ppg).
Jacobson joins the Cavaliers team for a three-day mini camp July 3-5 in Cleveland before embarking on a two-week road trip to Orlando and Las Vegas, competing in five games in each city against other NBA entries.
Jacosbon will face two other former Utes in the Cavaliers' first two games in Orlando. The Cavaliers play the Magic, who has Britton Johnsen (1997-2003) on its roster, on July 6. Chris Burgess (2000-02) is playing for the Boston Celtics, who will play Cleveland on July 7.
