SALT LAKE CITY - Two weather delays didn't cloud over a great performance by Utah women's soccer team, which shut out Boise State 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Ute Field. Hailey Marsh, Amanda Feigt and Melissa Wayman scored goals for the Utes, all coming in the first half.
Lightning caused the game to be delayed 45 minutes at the start and another 30 minutes with 41:31 remaining in the first half. The game went on through rain and wind with periods of sunshine.
Sophomore Hailey Marsh got her second goal of the season to open the scoring for Utah (4-2-1) in the 16th minute. Kim Lloyd crossed the ball from right to left in front of the net to Marsh, who slotted it into the lower left corner of the goal from eight yards away.
The Utes kept the pressure on Bronco keeper Kim Parker, who made four saves while playing the first half. Amanda Feigt took advantage when the Utes rushed the net 33:24 in, picking up a loose ball and putting it past Parker into the upper right corner. It was the third goal of the season for Feigt, a sophomore from Sandy, Utah.
Utah added one more goal 19 seconds before the half off of a well-executed corner kick. Erin Pruitt played it in from the right side to sophomore Melissa Wayman, who was waiting on the left side. Wayman headed it in from five yards out for her first goal of the year.
Utah had a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks over the Boise State (5-3-0). Ashley Mason made four saves, playing the entire 90 minutes in goal for the Utes. After Parker gave up three goals in the first half for Boise State, Michaela Morrison made three saves and held the Utes scoreless in the final 45 minutes.
Utah continues a three-game homestand next week, hosting Washington State on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and Utah State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
