? New Mexico leads the all-time series by a tally of 66-39.
? New Mexico has won nine of the last 11 meetings with Utah.
? The last Ute victory in the series came on April 10 last year, when Utah took a 10-2 decision from the Lobos.
? Utah hasn't taken a series from New Mexico since 2001. The Utes have never swept a three-game set from the Lobos.
? The Utes have the upper hand in the series when the games are close. Utah holds a 13-9 record against New Mexico in one-run games.
? Utah was 1-5 against the Lobos in 1996 with Bill Kinneberg at the helm for the Utes.
Scouting New Mexico
New Mexico dropped a 9-8 decision to New Mexico State Tuesday night in Las Cruces, N.M. The Lobos dropped to 12-15 after that loss. They are 2-4 in Mountain West Conference play.
New Mexico has faced two ranked teams, getting swept by then-No. 12 Arizona in a three-game set and dropping a single game to then-No. 27 Nebraska.
The Lobos took one game each in their first two MWC series. They hold one victory each over BYU and UNLV. This weekend will mark New Mexico's first league action away from Isotopes Park.
The Lobos are coached by Rich Alday, who is in his 15th season as New Mexico's head coach. He has a record of 243-210 during his time in Albuquerque.
Five Lobo regulars are batting .360 or better, led by Jordan Pacheco's .430 average. Pacheco has six home runs, eight doubles and 23 RBI on the season.
New Mexico's top starting pitcher is Danny Ray Herrera, who is 3-1 with a 4.99 ERA.
Putting It In Play
Utah ranks No. 3 of the six Mountain West Conference teams in batting average at .289. While the Utes' batting average is in the middle of the conference pack, putting the ball in play is not the problem.
Utah ranks No. 1 in the MWC in fewest number of strikeouts. The Utes have struck out just 136 times this season.
Double Your Pleasure
Utah turned seven double plays in last weekend's three game series at BYU. Those twin killings nearly doubled the Utes' tally of double plays in 2005.
Utah entered the BYU series with just 10 double plays in 20 games, averaging 0.5 per game. The Utes now have 17 in 23 games, averaging one double play every 0.74 games.
Utah turned 61 double plays in 58 games last year, averaging just more than one per contest.
