SALT LAKE CITY - Former University of Utah basketball standout Andrew Bogut continues to garner recognition for his outstanding showing last season.
The latest to take note is ESPN, nominating Bogut for an ESPY in the Best Male College Athlete category. The seven-footer from Down Under has already landed numerous awards, including the prestigious Naismith and Wooden awards. He led the Utes in averaging a double-double with 20.4 points per game and 12.2 rebounds.
Also nominated for the ESPY along with Bogut are: Nebraska's Alex Gordon who was twice named baseball's Player of the Year; USC's Matt Leinart, who led the Trojans to a national title in football; Oklahoma State's Steve Mocco who went 37-0 in wrestling and was the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler; and Colorado College's Marty Sertich who led the country in scoring and won college ice hockey's top player award, The Hoby Baker.
Past winners in this category include Emeka Okafor (Connecticut), Carmelo Anthony (Syracuse) and Cael Sanderson (Iowa State).
Viewers can vote for Bogut at the ESPN Web site with the awards going out on Sunday, July 17, at 7 p.m.
