ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Utah kept its sixth consecutive opponent off the scoreboard and got three goals of its own in the final 23 minutes to pull away for a 3-0 win over New Mexico on Sunday afternoon at the UNM Soccer Complex.
The Utes, ranked No. 13 in the NSCAA/adidas poll, tied a school record with their seventh straight win, improving to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in Mountain West Conference play. New Mexico fell to 6-6-3 overall and 0-2-2 in league play.
Katy Reineke, Kelly Isleib and Amanda Feigt all scored goals for the Utes, ending the game in an offensive flurry after 67 scoreless minutes.
Ute senior goalkeeper Ashley Mason was unscored upon once again, making five saves. Lynzee Lee played the final four minutes in goal for the Utes but didn't face a shot. The duo combined for Utah's sixth straight shutout, tying the school record set in 2003.
Isleib accounted for Utah's second goal and played a big part in the first one. After a nice series of passes by the Utes, Isleib dribbled through the Lobo defense and was fouled just outside the box in a last-ditch effort to prevent her from getting a one-on-one against the keeper.
With the free kick set-up a couple of yards to left of the 18, Reineke shaped the ball over the wall and into the upper left corner of the net early in the 68th minute. It was the first goal of the season for the Salt Lake City native.
Isleib then scored in the 80th minute. After Hailey Marsh worked the ball ahead, Isleib took a hard shot from 30 yards out. The freshman from Park City, Utah, beat the keeper low to the far post for her first goal as a Ute.
The Utes kept up the pressure and got a third goal from Amanda Feigt in the 85th minute. Melissa Crespo slipped the ball behind the Lobo defense toward the right side of the box. Despite working with a tough angle, Feigt one-timed the ball toward the far post for her third goal of the season.
The Utes outshot the Lobos 12-7, but didn't force New Mexico keeper Shannon Adragna to make a save until the second half, when she got two. The Utes were much more accurate in the second half, placing five of their seven shots on frame. Both teams set up two corner kicks.
Utah plays two of its final three regular season games at home, beginning with a match-up against TCU on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Utes then head to San Diego State next Sunday before hosting Wyoming on Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
