SALT LAKE CITY - On the heels of a 4-0 weekend, University of Utah softball players Meghan Dyer and Jackie Wong laid claim to the Mountain West Conference's Pitcher and Player of the Week awards, respectively.
Dyer reels in the honor after going 3-0 last weekend. She bagged an 8-0 win against San Jose State and a 2-1 win over New Mexico State. But her crowning accomplishment from last weekend was the perfect game she tossed in the 8-0 win over UTEP. She went all six innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters. Not a single Miner reached base.
For the week, Dyer tossed 11 innings of work. She fanned 17 while allowing only three walks and two hits. Dyer threw two shutouts and has tossed eight consecutive innings of scoreless ball. Her earned-run average in the three games was 0.00 while her opposing batters hit a scant .056.
Dyer threw only the seventh perfect game in Utah history. The last Ute to notch such an effort was Ali Andrus-Sagas in 1997.

Most notably, Wong lifted the Utes to victory in the 2-1 defensive struggle over New Mexico State on Sunday. She went 4-for-4 in that game and hit a bounding ball to right-center field in the bottom of the seventh inning. The hit allowed Staci Hemingway to score from second and broke the 1-1 tie.
The softball team has this weekend off before it returns to action at the Sunshine State Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. The tournament goes from March 10-12.
