DENVER-- The University of Utah men's tennis team fought for a 4-3 win over the Denver Pioneers. Utah's Zach Ganger played in the No. 2 spot, posting a 7-5, 7-6 (2-0) victory over No. 92 Niklas Persson.
The Utes almost dominated the singles, but struggled during doubles play. Utah's Dan Mascall and Wes Hancock were the only doubles team to post a victory over Denver.
"Our team showed a lot of heart and a lot of fight this evening in adverse conditions," says Assistant Coach Graeme Cox. "It is never easy to come back and win a match against a tough opponent like Denver after you lose the doubles point, but tonight we found a way to do it."
"Everyone fought hard and did not surrender, but Dan put his hard cap on and came through to win the deciding match," says Cox.
Coming up: The University of Utah men's tennis team will play Colorado at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
