This Week In Utah Baseball
The University of Utah baseball team travels to San Antonio, Texas for a matchup with the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio this weekend.
First pitch for Friday's game at Wolff Municipal Stadium is set for 6 p.m. CST. Saturday's and Sunday's games are slated for 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Utah is 1-2 after taking the final game of a three-game set at New Mexico State last week. Utah opened the season with a 4-1 loss to the Aggies Friday and fell 12-5 on Saturday. But the Ute offense exploded for eight home runs Sunday in a 21-9 victory.
Utah was 19-36 overall in 2005. The Utes were fifth at 10-20 in the MWC.

? Utah has allowed 25 walks through its first three games. By comparison, the Utes have only drawn 11 bases on balls.
Hitting's a Breeze
Junior transfer Breeze Stringham (Provo, Utah) had a heck of a Utah debut Sunday. After watching Friday and Saturday, Stringham was in the lineup Sunday against New Mexico State as the designated hitter.
He made the most of getting in the starting lineup. Stringham went 4-for-5 against the Aggies in Utah's 21-9 win. He hit two home runs, including a grand slam and drove in seven runs. Three of Stringham's four hits were for extra bases.
He also drew a walk for good measure.
Johnny Be Good
Junior center fielder John Welsh (Salem, Utah) is averaging a home run per game on the young season. Welsh had five hits in the season-opening series at New Mexico State, with three of them flying out of the ballpark.
Welsh also had a double in the series, meaning four of his five hits against the Aggies went for extra bases. He drove in seven runs, tying him for the team lead with Stringham.
Welsh had just four round-trippers in each of his first two seasons with the Utes.
