Khoury Earns Player of the Week Honors
Senior shortstop Ryan Khoury (West Jordan, Utah) is Utah's top hitter so far this season. He cemented that position by batting .600 over a three-game series last weekend at St. Mary's.
That performance earned him Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors.
Khoury is batting .438 and leads the team and the MWC in batting average. He is also tops in the MWC in slugging, on-base percentage and hits.
Johnny Be Good
Junior center fielder John Welsh (Salem, Utah) is enjoying a strong start to the season at the plate.
Welsh is tied for the team lead and is No. 3 in the MWC with four home runs. His 21 RBIs are tied for tops on the team and No. 5 in the league. Welsh's batting average is .369, which ranks him second in the Ute dugout and No. 3 in the MWC.
Twelve of Welsh's 31 hits have gone for extra bases, giving him a slugging percentage of .607, which is No. 2 for Utah and is No. 4 in the MWC.
