SALT LAKE CITY - Up 3-1 in the second inning of the first game, the University of Utah softball team saw its doubleheader with Mountain West Conference rival San Diego State cancelled due to persistent snow and rain.
The Utes (20-10, 2-0 MWC) went up 1-0 in the first inning, thanks to a fielder's choice RBI by Devina Quintero. However, SDSU countered in the second inning with solo home run.
However, Utah bust it open in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Meghan Crouse and Jackie Wong each plated RBI to take a 3-1 lead. Crouse got hit by a pitch with the bases juiced while Wong hit an RBI single to third.
Rain was the only the thing that could cut Utah's rally short as the game was called with the bases loaded, no outs and with Utah's No. 2 hitter due up.
Utah returns to the diamond with two in-state road games this week. The Utes are at UVSC (April 5) and at Brigham Young (April 8).
