SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah baseball team, winners in five of its last six, will host Southern Utah University Tuesday afternoon at Ute Field.
The Utes enter the non-conference contest 16-13 overall, while Southern Utah is 17-11 on the season.
"We've already faced Southern Utah once this season," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg. "They're a much improved ball club over last year. With these Tuesday non-conference games, it usually comes down to who has the best bullpen. It is all pitching depth and a little bit of survival."
Utah took three of four from Utah Valley State College last week in non-conference play. Southern Utah is coming off a four-game Mid-Continetn Conference series with Valparaiso, in which the Thunderbirds took three of the contests.
The Utes and SUU faced off in St. George back on March 9, splitting a doubleheader. Utah won the first game 11-5, while the Thunderbirds came back to take the nightcap, 12-10.
Kinneberg is happy with the way his team has performed over the past few weeks, heading into this week's action.
"As things stand right now, I'm happy with the way we're progressing and the way things are going," he said.
Following the contest with SUU, Utah will head for San Diego Wednesday evening. The Utes will play a three-game Mountain West Conference series with San Diego State beginning on Thursday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
