SALT LAKE CITY - The Mountain West Conference honored the University of Utah's Karina Cannon with Pitcher of the Week accolades as she got a win and a save in two key conference victories over Brigham Young University last weekend.
Cannon tossed 13.1 innings of work last weekend, making three appearances. She allowed a mere 11 hits and four runs (only two of which were earned). She fanned five opposing batters and didn't allow a single walk.
The junior came on in the fifth inning of the first game against BYU to pick up her conference-leading fourth save of the year. In her performance, she allowed four hits and one earned run, and didn't walk a single Cougar batter.
Cannon also got the start and the win in the nightcap with BYU. In that game, she didn't surrender an earned run or a walk and held the Cougars to only five hits.
She also started in the non-league game with San Jose State, leaving the game with Utah up 3-1. Cannon held the Spartans to only two hits and gave up one earned run.
The Utes return to action this weekend when they host New Mexico on Friday, April 28. First pitch at Ute Field is set for 1 p.m.
