THIS WEEK: The University of Utah track and field team heads to Ogden, Utah for the Wildcat Invitational this weekend. The meet will be held Saturday, April 8th at Stewart Stadium and begins at 10:00 a.m.
MEET PREVIEW: Teams joining Utah at this event are to be announced.
LAST TIME OUT: At the Stanford Invitational, Amanda Feigt brought home some strong performances for the team. She finished 6th overall in the long jump (19-02.00) and also competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing 11th (62.65). Jen Fresques competed in the 100m hurdles, finishing 22nd (14.88), and also finished 5th in the 400m hurdles (61.88). The 4x400m relay team finished 7th overall (3:50), with Jen Fresques, Candice Mannion, Hailey McAllister, and Ashley Patterson running in that order.
Other women who performed well at the Stanford Invitational include: Ashley Patterson finished 2nd in the "B" Section of the 400m (56.67) bringing home a new personal best time, and Candice Mannion finished 23rd (59.84). Hailey McAllister finished 3rd in the "B" Section of the Long Jump (17-09.75). Jennifer Cutrer competed in the 100m hurdles, finishing 15th with a time of 14.88.
Assistant coach Burke Bockman, who occasionally competes as a post-collegiate professional athlete competed in the men's 400m hurdles and won the event (51.18).
The BYU Invitational was also a successful meet for the Utes. AJ Roby had another great meet, finishing 1st in the discus throw (45.74m), 3rd in the shot put (13.67m), and 8th in the hammer throw (46.04m). Desi Shaw finished 4th in the 400m dash (1:00.23) and 13th in the 200m dash (26:77). Sarah McFee competed in the triple jump, finishing 5th (11.00m). Nikki Mancinelli tied for 9th in the high jump (1.55m) and Janett Ern finished 5th in the 800m with a time of 2:16.36.
UTE NOTES: The Utes have 5 new personal records and 2 new all-time top-ten performances this season.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Kyle Kepler: "It's still early in the outdoor season so we have a lot of improvements to make in all event areas. Our focus will be developing consistency and giving a higher level of effort at the Wildcat Invitational. It should be a fun atmosphere being so close to home and competing our entire team at one meet."
