Rich's Remarks
On last weekend: "The bottom line from our trip was that we didn't play to our standards in either game and were not able to get a result. We made some fundamental errors in our team defending at critical moments and we paid the price. I do not think we were mentally tough enough as well. We played two good teams who were on their home fields and very motivated. We didn't fight back enough when either Purdue or Illinois landed a blow. Also, we were not willing to scrap for a chance or a goal when we really needed it. We have always taken great pride in both our defense and our mental toughness. This was a clear reminder that we must bring those for 90 minutes each game."
"Getting past the disappointment, we actually played some terrific soccer. We created some great opportunities and should have scored a few more goals. We possessed the ball for long stretches against two good teams. If we have to learn some lessons, it's good that it happens now. We look forward to correcting those right away. I have great confidence in our team and know that we'll continue to get stronger."
On this weekend: "Idaho State is a good team with some terrific young talent. They haven't played a game in a couple of weeks and will be rested and extremely prepared for us. We have a recent history of close and memorable games with them. It will be fun to renew that rivalry. For our team, it will be a chance to get back on the horse and see if we can play with a tougher mentality in a road environment."
"Utah State has also had some exciting contests with us in the past few years. Several of our recent games have gone into overtime. Their speed of play is very good and it will be a game that will go down to the wire. We hope to have another good crowd on hand on Sunday for the Aggies."
