Utah Travels to California This Weekend
The University of Utah baseball team continues its season-opening, 16-game road trip this weekend. This week, the Utes head for California. Utah will play a three-game set at San Jose State Friday-Sunday and a single game at Santa Clara on Monday.
Utah enters this weekend with a 2-4 record. Utah won its series with New Mexico State last weekend, taking the last two games in Las Cruces, N.M.
San Jose State is currently 3-3 after splitting a pair with UC Santa Barbara last weekend.
Utah opened the season at Santa Clara, dropping a three-game series. The Broncos are currently 5-5 and are slated to play a three-game series at UC Davis before the contest with Utah.

? Four Utah pitchers, making a combined six appearances, have still yet to allow a run this season.
? Of 12 Utah pitchers, eight have an earned-run average of less than 5.00. ? The series win against New Mexico State last weekend was Utah's earliest series victory since the 2003 season.
? The Utes were the best fielding team in the Mountain West Conference last season, with a .970 mark.
Brossman's Big Day
Utah third baseman Jay Brossman had a nice outing against New Mexico State last Sunday. The Pullman, Wash. native was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs and scored a run. It was the first time in nearly a year that a Ute had five or more RBIs in a game. Brossman has at least one hit in each game so far this season. He's also playing well in the field. After committing a pair of errors in the season-opener, Brossman has not booted one since.
Strong Start
Utah first baseman Erich Kemp (Sr., Hemet, Calif.) is off to a solid start to the 2007 campaign. Kemp is currently batting .429 and has started all six games at first base. His batting average is tops on the team among regular players and ranks ninth in the Mountain West Conference. Kemp has tallied nine hits in 21 at-bats this season, with two doubles and four runs scored.
