SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah outfielder Diana Phillips earned the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week award this afternoon.
The junior led a Ute offense that helped the team go 5-1 at the UTEP Invitational last weekend.
Phillips, from Taylorsville, Utah, paced the team this weekend in hits (11), RBI (10) and triples (2). Her impressive offensive numbers also included her batting average (.647), slugging percentage (1.353) and on-base percentage (.750) as she nearly averaged a double per at-bat.
Of her 11 hits, six of them went for extra bases. She belted two doubles, two triples and two home runs. Phillips managed to post those numbers in spite of being walked six times.
Her efforts last weekend bumped her batting average up from .300 to a team-best .426.
Phillips and her Utah softball teammates return to action this weekend when they play at the USF Louisville Slugger Tournament. Action begins on Friday when Utah plays Auburn and 11 a.m. (EST).
