Utah Opens MWC Play at New Mexico This Week
The University of Utah baseball team has won three straight as it heads for Albuquerque, N.M. to open Mountain West Conference action at New Mexico this weekend. The Utes defeated BYU 8-4 in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Franklin Covey Field.
The Utes and Lobos will hook up in a three-game set at Isotopes Park, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. MDT. Saturday's game is slated for 2 p.m., while first pitch on Sunday will be at 1 p.m.
Utah enters this week's action with a 7-14 record. In addition to winning three in a row, the Utes have won five of seven and each of their last two series.
New Mexico is 11-15. The Lobos snapped a four-game skid with a 13-6 win over New Mexico State Tuesday.

Lefty Eric King (Sr., Orem, Utah) has been the most reliable pitcher on the Utah staff so far this season. King has started six games and has an earned-run average of just 2.43, which ranks No. 2 in the MWC. He has tossed a team-high 29 2/3 innings. King also has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2-to-1. He has 26 strikeouts and has allowed just 13 walks. He has a 2-1 record, which is tied for the team lead in victories.
