COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah freshman Kara Foster and senior right-hander Meghan Dyer have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Foster, a Derby, Kan. native, was second on the team in hitting (6-for-12, .500) and led the Utes to a 4-1 record last week. Foster belted a team-best two doubles and one home run. She led all Utes with seven RBI and was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and a home run against New Mexico State. Foster also tallied two RBIs in games against Maryland and Central Michigan. She led the Utes with a .917 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .571 last week.
Dyer, from a Tracy, Calif., went 2-0 in the circle over the weekend. She tallied a 0.58 ERA to lead Utah to wins over New Mexico State and Maryland. Dyer struck out 21 batters over her two outings, moving her into the top-five all-time at Utah with 327 career strikeouts. Dyer started both games and had double-digit strikeouts in both games (10, 11). She held both opponents to two or fewer hits, holding Maryland to one and allowing only two to New Mexico State. Dyer also held opponents to a batting average of just .100.
As a team, Utah went 3-1 last weekend at the University of South Florida Louisville Slugger Tournament.
The Utes have this weekend off. Utah is scheduled to be in action again March 13 at Utah Valley State. First pitch for the Ute-Wolverine clash is slated for 3 p.m.
