Utah Falls to UVSC, Hosts New Mexico This Week
The University of Utah baseball team hasn't left the State of Utah since late March. The Utes are in the area once again this week. After dropping a 10-4 decision at Utah Valley State Tuesday night, Utah hosts a three-game Mountain West Conference set against New Mexico Thursday-Saturday.
Utah enters this weekend's action with a 16-20 overall record and a 5-4 mark in Mountain West Conference play. The Utes have won seven of their last 10 and five of their last six series.
UVSC is 15-23 overall after its win over Utah.
New Mexico is currently 17-21 and 6-6 in the MWC. The Lobos swept a three-game set at Air Force last weekend. The Utes have already faced New Mexico once this season, taking two of three in Albuquerque to open conference play.

Utah second baseman Corey Shimada (So., Murray, Utah) ripped two triples last week. His total of nine three-baggers and average of 0.26 per game are good enough to lead the nation. Shimada has more triples than doubles. Nearly one-fifth of his 47 hits have gone for three bases. In addition to his knack for knocking triples, Shimada has been on a tear as of late. He has had at least one hit in 19 of his last 20 games, while walking at least once in 12 of those 20 contests. Over the course of the last 20 games, he has raised his batting average from .241 to .343 and is currently tops on the team in batting average.
