Utah Baseball Adds Jones to 2008 Class

SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg has announced the signing of Austin Jones to a national letter-of-intent. Jones will transfer to Utah from Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, La. this fall.
Jones is a 6-foot 1-inch, 220-pound first baseman/catcher, who is originally from Boise, Idaho. He is batting .388 with 47 RBIs for Bossier Parish this season. He has 18 doubles, seven home runs and one triple in 44 games for the Cavaliers. Jones has also stolen 20 bases this season.
"We're pleased to be adding Austin Jones to the Utah baseball program," Ute head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We're hoping he can add a little offensive pop to our lineup. He's a big, athletic guy and we think he can add some power for us."
Jones earned All-Texas Eastern Athletic Conference honors in 2006 as a freshman, playing catcher. He has moved to first base as a sophomore this season.
Aaron Vorachek, Jones' coach at Bossier Parish, said the Utes are fortunate to have Jones in the fold.
"We're going to miss Austin a ton," Vorachek said. "He's one of the hardest-working kids I've ever coached and a great team leader. Austin is everything you want in a ball-player. Not only can he play, but he's a model citizen. He's a smart player, everyone likes him on the team and he'll do whatever you ask him to do. Austin is a pretty special player. I'd say the University of Utah got themselves a good one."
Jones will be a junior in eligibility when Utah's 2008 season rolls around next spring.
