SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah senior baseball player Jay Brossman has been named Academic All-District VIII. Brossman received this honor after voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which administers the Academic All-America program.
Brossman, a Pullman, Wash. product, is majoring in exercise and sports science at Utah. He currently holds a 3.38 grade-point average.
On the field, Brossman is tied for first in the Mountain West Conference with 10 home runs. He leads the conference in slugging percentage (.647), ranks fourth in RBIs (47) and is fifth in batting average (.356). Brossman is currently in the midst of a 20-game hitting streak.
This is the second consecutive season Brossman has earned Academic All-District accolades. By virtue of his inclusion on the all-district team, Brossman will be eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will also be voted upon by the membership of CoSIDA.
