SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah softball head coach Angie Jacobs has announced the addition of junior college transfers Angie Boardman and Amanda Duran to the Ute roster for the 2007-08 season.
"Angie is a middle infielder and Amanda is a catcher," said Jacobs. "Their personal and athletic qualities will be crucial in leading this program and taking it to the next level.
"I am very happy that we were able to sign an All-American catcher and a quality middle-infielder. These two student-athletes are coming in with the experience and leadership that this team will need next season."
Boardman joins the Utes after two seasons at North Idaho College. As the Cardinals' shortstop, Boardman hit a league-best .394 this season and had eight homers, 37 runs and 37 RBI. She was named the SWAC Player of the Year, first team all-region and was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year.
NIC won the Region XVIII Championship and is about to begin play at the 2007 NJCAA College World Series.
As a freshman, Boardman immediately made an impact. The Spokane, Wash., native hit .350 in her rookie season and plated 42 RBI. She set school records for RBI (five) and home runs (two) in a single game. She was second team all-region and was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year after her first season.
An All-American catcher for Pima Community College, Duran is hitting .441 with 67 RBI, 17 home runs and 26 doubles this season.
Duran led her team to the College World Series title last year, earning All-American honors for her efforts. She was also named to the NJCWS all-tournament team and was the Junior College Diamond National Catcher of the Year. In addition to those laurels, she earned all-conference and all-region accolades.
She is a career .481 hitter for the Aztecs.
