Utah, BYU Battle for Second Place This Week
The University of Utah baseball team finishes the regular season with a three-game series against BYU this weekend in Provo.
The Utes could take second place in the final Mountain West Conference regular season standings and -- more importantly -- the No. 2 seed in next week's MWC Tournament. Utah would need to sweep the Cougars to take the No. 2 seed.
Utah will end up third in the MWC standings and get the No. 3 seed no matter what happens in the BYU series, unless New Mexico takes two or more from league-leading TCU this weekend.
Utah enters this weekend coming off a three-game sweep of Air Force. The Utes are 24-26 overall and 12-9 in MWC action.
BYU was 31-18 overall and 14-7 in MWC action entering the week. The Cougars played Utah Valley State Tuesday night.
