Utah Looks to Right Ship at Air Force
The University of Utah baseball team had won 12 of its last 16 going into last weekend's series with TCU. The Utes have now lost five straight and hope to change their fortunes this weekend at the Air Force Academy.
Utah is coming off a 6-4 loss to Utah Valley State Tuesday evening. The Utes had 13 batters strike out and left 12 runners on base against the Wolverines' Marcus Moore. That loss followed a sweep at the hands of TCU last weekend. The Utes are now 21-26 overall and 9-9 in Mountain West Conference play.
Air Force comes into the weekend with an 8-38 overall record. The Falcons are winless in Mountain West Conference play this season, going 0-17 so far.
Utah is still in the running for second place in the MWC and a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.

Shimmy Shimmy Coco Pop
Utah second baseman Corey Shimada (So., Murray, Utah) continues to be one of the hottest hitters in the country. "Shimmy" homered and tripled Tuesday night at UVSC. That extended his hitting streak to 17 games and upped his nation-leading total number of triples to 10. Shimada has had at least one hit in 30 of his last 31 games, while walking at least once in 17 of those 31 contests. Over the course of the last 31 games, he has raised his batting average from .241 to .359 and is currently leads the team in batting average, runs (50), hits (64), triples, walks (35), on-base percentage (.473) and sacrifice bunts (10).
