Myers To Join Baseball Team

SALT LAKE CITY - On the heels of seeing three of its players drafted last week, University of Utah baseball head coach Bill Kinneberg announced that JUCO transfer Kyle Myers will join the Utes for the 2008 season.
An infielder, Myers spent the last two seasons player for Bossier Parish in Bossier City, La. Myers accompanies teammate Austin Jones who will also join the Utes after two seasons at Bossier Parish.
Myers, a 6-5, 210-pound infielder, was an all-conference honoree in tying for the league lead in batting average (.413). He also tagged conference rivals for six doubles, two homers and 18 RBI. His on-base percentage was an impressive .476.
For the season, the Woodworth, La., product hit .353 and had 10 doubles, two homers, one triple and 12 stolen bases. His overall on-base percentage checked in at .442.
Myers and Jones round out the 2007 signing class that also included Tyler Andersen (West Jordan, Utah), Michael Beltran (Lakewood, Calif.), Scott Cashman (Gig Harbor, Wash.), Robert Chimpky (Livermore, Calif.), D.C. Legg (Murrieta, Calif.), Hilton Richardson (Kirkland, Wash.) and Devin Walker (Pleasant Grove, Utah).
However, two of the signees were drafted in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft last week. Richardson went to the Kansas City Royals in the seventh round while Beltran went to the Seattle Mariners in the 39th.
Also getting drafted was graduated senior and standout infielder Jay Brossman. The four-time all-conference player for the Utes went in the 36th round to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
