NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Utah men's basketball team (5-3) faces a tough road test on national television Saturday as the Runnin' Utes take on unbeaten and No. 5-ranked Oklahoma (9-0) on the Sooners' home floor. The game will be carried on ESPN2 and will tip off at approximately 3:05 p.m. CT.
After winning five straight contests, Utah is looking to end a two-game losing skid coming off of a 72-69 home loss to California Wednesday in Salt Lake City. Utah's last victory was a 95-81 dismantling of Oregon at home on Dec. 3.
Oklahoma enters Saturday's game following a 26-point victory over Maine and a 25-point win against Tulsa. The Sooners have also battled through several tight games to come out on the winning end, defeating Purdue in overtime, 87-82, coming from behind to beat UAB, 77-67, and outlasting USC, 73-72.
Utah comes into the game shooting a better overall field goal percentage (.504) than the Sooners (.479), while also hitting at .372 from three-point land to a .305 mark by OU.
Senior center Luke Nevill (Perth, Australia) remains the Runnin' Utes' individual leader at 18.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He has yet to be held under double figures and has recorded four double-doubles in eight games this year. Senior guard Shaun Green (Salt Lake City) has also scored double figures in three straight games and is second on the team to Nevill in both scoring (11.8 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg) for the year.
His team-leading counterpart for Oklahoma is sophomore forward Blake Griffin, scoring at a clip of 24.4 points and 15.6 boards per contest.
The all-time series between the two teams stands at 1-1, with both previous matchups being played on a neutral floor. The last time they faced off was also Utah's last NCAA Tournament win, a 67-58 decision in Tuscon, Ariz., that propelled the Utes to a Sweet 16 appearance in Austin, Texas.
