Each week on UtahUtes.com, Kelly Matthews and Meghan Crouse will share their thoughts from the road, sharing behind the scenes details and their thoughts from the games.
Meg and Kel here...
Ok, first off, Meg and I are NOT twins - but we wish! We have been BFF's (best friends forever) for 14 years and counting! She is my maid of honor in my wedding. We might look the same, be the same height and act the same, but there is not the same blood! We are BIG seniors this year and are super pumped. GET EXCITED! This weekend we had our first tournament in St. George...that means ... ROAD TRIP! We love those. It gets the team so much closer to start off the season. I think it's the six-hour bus ride, because I don't know how you could be on a bus with 17 girls and not get close and have fun together.
We kicked the road trip off with a little Karaoke. `Ain't No Mountain High Enough' was probably the best. Sang by the one and only Brit (Brittany Parker) and Lo (Laura Dahlberg) - they're the only two freshman we have! It was super cute to see them get up and raise their voices like Mariah Carey. We loved your dance moves! It was awesome to see the girls get out of their comfort zone, let loose and just have fun. The rest of the bus ride was filled with stuffing our faces (which is never a hard task) and watching movies.
That night we had a team meeting before our first game. The next morning was not hard to get up because first, the game was later so we got to sleep in (yeah!), and second, we were all sooo anxious to get on the field! Walking onto the field together strutting our stuff for the first time was amazing. You can feel the energy and enthusiasm each girl brings. We are a very loud, talkative, lively team - it's fun to be around each other. We are constantly laughing and having fun. Meg thinks that the positive energy is what helps us win games, and I totally agree!
We aren't going to highlight the games much because if you want to hear about that you can read the website. But we want to just briefly give a shout out to Angie Boardman - "Hey girl!" She came in with a HUGE hit in the first game to score two runs, which gave us momentum for the entire weekend! We love you girl! It's so much fun to see all the girls trust their abilities and just play. Each girl brings something different to this team and we all mold together. Its fun EVERY DAY! Even if are just practicing. We will see you again after next weekend! This is Meg and Kel over and out...10-4 rubber ducky!
PS: We rocked this weekend!
