SALT LAKE CITY - The Utes head to Idaho State for the Mountain State Games this weekend, Feb. 8-9.
Last Time Out: Lauren Endersen won the 3000-meter run to pace Utah at the United Heritage Invitational, hosted by Boise State. Enderson finished the race in a personal-best time of 10:08.62, which ranks ninth all-time at Utah.
Chelsea DiGrazia had a second-place finish in the mile run. Digrazia's time of 4:59.42 was a personal best. She is one of only six women to run under a five minute mile at Utah.
Josefin Berg led a 2-3-4 finish in the weight throw. Berg tossed a 53-5' and was followed by Chasity Toilolo (51-1.75') and Sarah Grimm (50.05'). Toilodo's throw was a personal best. Haley McAllister continued her prowess in the long jump, coming in second with a leap of 18-7.75'.
Chelsea Shapard placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.08. Mandie Rowell and Sarah McFee finished 2-3, respectively, in the triple jump. Rowell had a leap of 36-11.5' while McFee jumped 36-0.
Shapard also ran the opening leg of the 4x400-meter relay team, which finished second in 3:53.21. Chelsey Kaplar, Haley McAllister and Ashley Patterson rounded out the team.
Ute Notes: Utah athletes have set nine new all-time top-10 marks this season ... Patterson leads Utah with four wins this season (two individual, two relay) while McAllister has three (two individual, one relay) ... Patterson's personal best of 25.27 in the 200 meters (1/19) is second in school history ... sophomore Liza Whitehead ran the second-fastest time in school history in the 60-meter dash at the BYU Invitational (7.83).
Coach Kepler's Two Cents: "This weekend's meet in Pocatello will allow us to see some teams we have not seen yet this year. Different competition always keeps your team on edge - which I like. Our distance runners ran very well last weekend. Some of them will try to continue to ride that wave of momentum while others will get a break from competition and continue training. The sprinters and jumpers will be looking for more consistency this week. The week off probably affected their timing and technique more than everyone else, so I'm sure they'll start to feel better about their performances now that we get back into having a meet every weekend this month. The throwers have been training very hard in the early part of the indoor season and will also be looking for more consistency in their series."
Looking Ahead: Utah travels to Iowa for the Iowa State Classic, Feb. 15-16.
