SALT LAKE CITY - Utah continues the tournament portion of the schedule with five games at the San Diego State Classic, March 14-16. Included in the schedule is No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 25 Long Beach State.
Last Time Out
Utah opened the home season with a pair of victories over Southern Utah, winning the first game 8-0 and the second game, 4-0.
Ashley Smuda pitched a no-hitter in game one, striking out seven. She got plenty of support from the Utah offense, led by a 3-for-3 effort from Diana Phillips. Phillips hit her 13th-career triple in the game, which ranks her tied for second all-time at Utah.
Phillips was 3-for-4 at the plate in the second game, while Sharee Fonoti went 2-for-2.
Smuda and Brittany Parker split the pitching duties in game two. Parker had seven strikeouts in her four innings.
Utah has defeated the Thunderbirds a total of 21-0 in three games this year, with just two hits allowed.

Meagan Gibson's 14-0 record and 0.85 ERA led the Aggies in the circle.

Stunning Smuda
Sophomore pitcher Ashley Smuda pitched her first career no-hitter against Southern Utah on March 11. She had seven strikeouts in the five-inning 8-0 victory. It was Utah's 20th no-hitter in school hitter and the first since Meghan Dyer against UTEP in 2006.
Smuda has appeared in 19 of the Utes 22 games this season. In addition to the no-hitter, one of her biggest wins was a 5-4 victory over then-No. 22 Texas.
After allowing three hits in the first inning of her first start against Wisconsin, she settled down and only allowed five more the rest of the weekend at the Red Desert Classic.
Phillips Watch
All-West Region and three-time all-Mountain West Conference selection Diana Phillips is nearing several career marks at Utah. She hit her 13th career triple against Southern Utah to tie for third all-time at Utah. The all-time triples record is 19, held by Sandy Rhea (1995-98).
Her current .359 career batting average is second all-time.
In addition, Phillips has averaged over 59 hits a season in her career (204 total hits). If she continues on the same pace in 2008 she will rank among the top five at Utah in hits.
Phillips is batting .410 on the year with a team-best 25 hits on the season.
Over The Boarderline
