SALT LAKE CITY - Utah goes up against a pair of in-state rivals this week, traveling to Logan to play a doubleheader with Utah State on March 26, before a weekend series with Utah Valley State, March 29-30.
Weekend in Review
Utah was 2-3 at the Judi Garman Classic. One of their two wins was a 3-2 upset of No. 14 DePaul. In addition, they held No. 1 Arizona State to just three runs in a 3-0 loss. The Utes had previously lost to the Sun Devils 9-0 in a meeting on March 7.
Angie Boardman led the Utes at the plate with a .308 batting average, including two home runs and six RBI. She hit both home runs against Illinois. Kara Foster also had a solid weekend with a home run and three RBI, hitting .286.
Ashley Smuda went 2-1 in the circle with a 1.52 ERA. She had 20 strikeouts over the weekend.

Phillips Watch
All-West Region and three-time all-Mountain West Conference selection Diana Phillips is nearing several career marks at Utah. She hit her 13th career triple against Southern Utah to tie for third all-time at Utah. The all-time triples record is 19, held by Sandy Rhea (1995-98).
Her current .357 career batting average is second all-time.
In addition, Phillips has averaged over 59 hits a season in her career (213 total hits). If she continues on the same pace in 2008 she will rank among the top five at Utah in hits.
Phillips is batting .378 on the season with a team-best 34 hits. She leads the Mountain West Conference with 15 stolen bases and is tied for first with two triples.
Over The Boarderline
Junior transfer Angie Boardman has five game-winning hits, driving in what would be the winning run, this season. Her most recent came against Illinois (3/21), hitting a home run to give the Utes the lead.
She also had game-winning hits against Wisconsin (2/8), Southern Utah (2/9), Texas State (2/15) and Wichita State (3/1).
Boardman is second on the team with a .351 average this season and a team-best 23 RBI. She is ranked in the top-10 in the conference in batting average, slugging percentage (.571), on-base percentage (.462), RBI and doubles (8).
She had Utah's only hit of the game against No. 1 Arizona State (3/7) and two of the Utes four hits vs. No. 5 Texas A&M (3/14).
Stunning Smuda
Sophomore pitcher Ashley Smuda pitched her first career no-hitter against Southern Utah on March 11. She had seven strikeouts in the five-inning 8-0 victory. It was Utah's 20th no-hitter in school hitter and the first since Meghan Dyer against UTEP in 2006.
Smuda has appeared in 25 of the Utes 31 games this season. In addition to the no-hitter, she led the Utes to wins against No. 14 DePaul, 3-2, and a 5-4 victory over then-No. 22 Texas.
After allowing three hits in the first inning of her first start against Wisconsin, she settled down and only allowed five more the rest of the weekend at the Red Desert Classic.
Downing Ranked Teams
Utah has defeated two ranked teams this season. The Utes beat then-No. 22 Texas, 5-4, on Feb. 29, while downing No. 14 DePaul, 3-2, on March 20.
