LOS ANGELES - Josefin Berg led all Ute athletes on the first day of the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, finishing third in the hammer throw open.
Berg had a toss of 179'11".
Chasity Toilolo was 19th in the event with a throw of 144'08" while Sarah Grimm was 23rd, throwing 139'11".
"Josefin lost first by less than a foot," said throws coach Tapio Kuusela. "Chasity continues to perform very well and this year she has increased her level of consistency to the point where we can expect bigger things from her later in the season. We'll be up there when those meets that really count are at hand."
The Utes continue at the UCLA Invitational on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
