SALT LAKE CITY - With the Boys of Summer in full swing, former University of Utah baseball standouts are continuing to further their careers at the professional level this season.
Chris Shelton is currently playing Triple-A ball for the Oklahoma RedHawks, the farm club for the Texas Rangers. Shelton leads the team in batting average (.364) and slugging percentage (.727). Last season, Shelton started the season playing at the Major League level for the Detroit Tigers, and he finished playing for the Triple-A Toledo Mudhens.
Ryan Khoury is playing Double-A ball in the Red Sox farm system in Portland, Maine. He's on the Sea Dogs' roster of the Eastern League. The second baseman is hitting .226, and he leads the team with a pair of triples on the young season. His five RBI are second on the squad. Last year, Khoury played for the Class A Advanced Lancaster JetHawks.
Jay Brossman is in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim system, playing for the Class A Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League. He is hitting .375 on the season, and he currently leads the team in hits (16) and doubles (four). Last year, Brossman played for the Orem Owlz, hitting .346 in being named a Pioneer League All-Star.
