FORT WORTH. Texas - University of Utah baseball standouts Stephen Fife and Cody Guymon were named first team all-Mountain West Conference here on the eve of the league tournament this evening.
Guymon, who made the team as its designated hitter, owned a team-best .368 batting average for the year. He saw his average improve to a team-high .406 in conference play. He also had a team-leading 21 RBI and five homers in MWC-only tilts.
Stephen Fife was Utah's top hurler this season. Sporting a 3.35 earned-run average in all games, Fife saw that average plummet to 2.72 in MWC-only games. He led all Ute hurlers with 75 strikeouts, with 56 of them coming in conference action.
Guymon, Fife and the rest of the Utes hit the diamond tomorrow night in their first game of the tournament. The No. 5 seed, Utah will play No. 4 BYU with first pitch at Lupton Stadium here in Fort Worth, Texas, set for 7 p.m. (CDT).
