The Utah baseball team wraps up with its fall practice season this week.
* The Utes were recognized for their 2009 MWC Tournament Championship during the Louisville football game. In addition, head coach Bill Kinneberg received the Don Reddish award, which is awarded to the top non-revenue sport coach at Utah for the past season.
* Overall, Kinneberg is pleased with how fall practice has gone for the Utes.
"The fall has been great. Our guys have worked extremely hard as both individuals and as a team.
"We are a little dinged up and I am glad we are not starting for a few months to get people rehabbed."
* Kinneberg noted a number of both returning and new players who stood out during the fall season.
"Our players who started last year and are returning, including Nick Kuroczko, Michael Beltran, C.J. Cron, Devin Walker, Rick Cornu and Cooper Blanc, all had a good fall and played as well as we expect them to. Nik Gumeson, who redshirted last year, is going to be a valuable asset to us. He can play all seven positions in the infield and outfield if we need him to. Pitchers Rick Anton, Brock Duke and Zach Adams are all going to be great additions to our staff. Tyson Gonzalez and Jo Jo Sharrar also had a great fall and really opened our eyes as to their abilities."
* A motivational tool that the Utes have used during the fall campaign is the `Hard Hat.' The hat (a white hard hat adorned with a Utah logo) is given to the player on the team with the most hustle that week, passed on by the player that won it the previous week. Zach Adams, Devin Walker, Austin Shackelford, Jordan Whatcott, Jo Jo Sharrar and Josh Reed were all given the hard hat during the season.
