SALT LAKE CITY - After one weekend of competition under their belts, the Utah baseball team travels to Cal State Bakersfield for its second series of the year.
"We are looking forward to getting back out and getting better," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We got a taste of playing time but are looking forward to getting through these first eight games and getting settled in."

Cal State Bakersfield baseball is in its inaugural season. The Roadrunners athletics program is in its third year transitioning to a full-time NCAA Division I member.
CSBU is 2-2 after one weekend of competition, with a pair of victories over St. Louis University (4-2, 8-4). The Roadrunners losses came to SLU (8-7) and UC Santa Barbara (10-0).
Junior infielder Kyle Richardson is CSBU's top hitter, going 8-for-17 over the first four games (.471). He had two doubles, a triple and a home run with five RBI in the span.
On the mound, starting pitchers Erik Draxton (1-0, 2.08 ERA) and Jonathan Montoya (1-0, 3.86 ERA) each earned wins last weekend. The Roadrunners other two starting pitchers are Mickey Jannis (0-1, 6.75 ERA) and Sam Jones (0-1, 12.71 ERA).
Quick Hits
The Utes went 9-for-10 in stolen base attempts the first weekend, including going 7-for-7 in the first game of the year. Cooper Blanc was 3-for-3 on the basepaths ... Nick Kuroczko hit a pair of triples against Loyola Marymount. Others who had multiple extra base hits in the series were Corey Shimada (1 triple, 1 double), Austin Jones (2 doubles) and Rick Cornu (2 doubles).
Ute Debut
Several Utah players made their first starts against LMU. Rick Cornu (right field) and C.J. Cron (catcher, DH) started all four games, while others who made starts during the weekend include Jo Jo Sharrar (catcher), Zach Jones (left field), Kevin Hussey (left field), Tyler Yagi (DH) and Gavin Green (DH), and pitcher Jordan Whatcott made his first start. Other newcomers who played were pitchers Zach Clausing and Joe Pond, as well as utility players Kyle Myers, Josh Reed and Austin Christensen.
