Projected Starters
Utah's Bryn Card (Jr., LHP) vs. SUU's Alec Reichle (Jr., LHP)
SALT LAKE CITY - The Ute baseball team plays its first mid-week game of the year this week, taking on Southern Utah in Cedar City on Tuesday, March 17, at 3:00 p.m. Utah is looking to bounce back from dropping two of three to BYU in their Mountain West Conference series opener.
"It is important for us to make sure that we are focused on playing the game right and improving so we are a better ballclub after the game tomorrow," head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "I was happy with how we played last Friday and Saturday, but we had a letdown in the last game and that was disappointing. Hopefully we can learn from it and get stronger because of it."
The Thunderbirds are 8-7 on the year and are coming off an 8-3 loss to BYU on March 10. Before that, they took three of four from Air Force.
SUU is batting .308 as a team with five starters batting .300 and over. Nick Freitas is hitting .407 with five doubles and four home runs with a .722 slugging percentage. He also has a team-high five stolen bases. Ray Wright is batting .393, including three doubles, two triples and two home runs.
Projected starter Alec Reichle is 0-1 on the season with four starts. He has a 5.91 ERA.
