Mountain West Announces 10th Anniversary Softball Team

Former Utes Niki Hayhurst and Diana Phillips were honored as the Mountain West Conference has announced its 10th Anniversary Softball Team, as selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and online fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been an all-Mountain West selection at least once in their careers.
Hayhurst was a left-handed first baseman for the Utes from 2000 to 2003. She was from Keizer, Ore., and possessed a powerful bat while playing solid defensive. She was a key player in the Utes' success, leaving the program as the school's all-time leader with 106 walks and was second in school history with 1,450 putouts. Hayhurst is tied for second in school history with 41 career doubles and tied for fourth place in Utah history with 131 RBI. She stands fifth in school history with 32 home runs.
Phillips played center field for the Utes from 2005 to 2008. The Taylorsville, Utah native earned recognition as a two-time All-West Region and four-time all-conference player. Phillips was strong both in the field and at the plate for the Utes, leading the team in batting average in 2007 (.398) and 2008 (.381).
Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 season in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th anniversary.
