LOGAN, UTAH - The University of Utah track and field team competed in the Mark Faldo Utah State Classic on Saturday, ending with 13 top-five finishes and three event champions.
Chelsea Shapard won the 400-meter dash after crossing the line at 54.50. Teammate Ashley Patterson was hot on her heels, finishing in 55.97 for second place.
Whitney Wellington, Chelsey Kaplar, Haley McAllister-Birkeland, and Shapard won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:44.60. Wellington also competed in the 100-meter dash for a fifth-place finish (12:36). McAllister-Birkeland competed in the long jump for second place with a mark of 18'9.25". Kaplar also went on to finish in second-place in both the 100-meter (14.82) and 400-meter hurdles (1:01.26).
In the 800-meter run, Chelsea DiGrazia ran a time of 2:14.16 for a second-place finish, while Janett Ern finished seventh with a 2:18.93 finish time.
In the throwing events, Sarah Grimm delivered a 199'00" mark for first place in the hammer, a new personal record. Josefin Berg earned third place in the event with a 189'7" toss and Jessica Hampton finished in tenth-place with a 144'7" mark. Breanna Freestone finished in eighth-place in the javelin throw with a mark of 105'4".
Chasity Toilolo had a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a 42'1.5" effort and had a seventh-place finish in the discus with a mark of 139'9". Candus Aiello earned sixth-place in the shot put with a 39'9.25" toss.
In the pole vault, Klaudia Rokossa had a 12'00" clearance to earn second-place overall and Laryssa Simpson earned fourth-place after clearing 11'6.25". In the high jump, Brianna LeRoy had a 5'3" height to earn sixth place.

The University of Utah track and field team will be competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah, on April 23-25.
