SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah track & field team will host the Utah Twilight Tuesday at Tally Stevens Outdoor Track Complex (800 S., 1400 E.). The hammer throw, held at Guardsman Field, is the first event of the meet at 1 p.m. Track events and the rest of the field events will start at 4:30 p.m. Links to further information for the meet are listed at the top of this page.
"It's important to the development of our program to host home meets," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "It's especially important to our 12 seniors who have each made such a huge impact on our team and have been one of the keys to the success that we have had. It's a great reward for them to be able to compete in front of their family and friends."
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
After six outdoor meets this season, Utah has registered 22 top-10 performances on the school's all-time performance list and four different Utes have posted 19 NCAA Regional-qualifying marks.
Chelsea Shapard has qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.88 seconds, while Chelsea DiGrazia's time of 4:26.71 in the 1,500-meter run also qualifies her for the NCAA West Regional meet. A pair of Ute throwers, Sarah Grimm and Josefin Berg, both qualified for regionals in the hammer throw. Grimm threw a team-best distance of 199', followed by Berg's distance of 192'5".
LAST WEEK
After running into some inclement weather, Utah was finally able to compete last weekend with mild weather conditions Saturday at the Eccles Coliseum Spring Meet. The Utes were able to win five events and post several other top-five finishes in school history.
Freshman Lucy Yates won the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:14.09. Shapard, Chelsey Kaplar, Ashley Patterson and Whitney Wellington won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:47.16. Grimm earned her fourth hammer championship of the season last Saturday with a toss of 193' 11", while Berg took second place with a toss of 189' 0".
Chasity Toilolo won the discus event with a 149' 8" effort and also had a fifth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 42' 8.25". Grimm took fourth place in the discus with a 142' 1".
