SALT LAKE CITY - Utah first baseman Austin Jones has been selected as a National Player of the Week by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
With four home runs against Air Force on Friday, May 1, Jones broke the school record and tied the Mountain West Conference record for homers in a game. His grand slam in the seventh inning gave Utah the lead for good, 9-8. He also put Utah on the board in the first inning with a solo homer and added two-run home runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.
The previous school record for home runs in a game was three. The MWC record is four, set in 2008 by New Mexico's Brian Cavazos-Galvez. Jones was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and nine RBI on the afternoon.
For the week, Jones hit .381 with eight hits and seven runs scored, as the Utes (19-24, 6-12 MWC) defeated Utah Valley and swept a three-game series against Air Force.
