SALT LAKE CITY - The Runnin' Ute basketball team (9-8, 2-1 MWC) returns home to host San Diego State (13-5, 2-2 MWC) Tuesday at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. MT and the game will be televised live on The Mtn. The Utes are looking to win their 11th straight Mountain West Conference home game, dating back to the 2007-08 season. San Diego State is 4-5 on the road this year, including an 0-2 mark in MWC road games.
Utah owns a 53-13 (.803) record all-time against the Aztecs, including a 29-2 mark at home. The Utes have won three consecutive meetings against SDSU in Salt Lake City and have not dropped a home contest in the series since Jan. 11, 2006. Utah captured two of the three contests between the two teams last year, splitting the respective home games, and topping the Aztecs 52-50 to win the MWC Tournament in Las Vegas. In the three meetings last year, former Ute Luke Nevill was Utah's leading scorer (15.7 ppg), while the highest-scoring current Ute was junior guard Carlon Brown (Riverside, Calif.) at 7.3 points per game.
Utah is coming off a 73-69 win at UNLV as the Utes captured their first victory over the Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center since 2005. Brown was Utah's top scorer with 16 points as he raised his season-leading average to 12.9 ppg.
Senior forward Kim Tillie (Cagnes-sur-Mer, France) is the Utes' leading rebounder at 6.1 per contest. He saw his first conference action against UNLV after missing two games following arthroscopic knee surgery. Sophomore center David Foster (Lake Forest, Calif.) scored a career-high 13 points and added six rebounds and six blocks as well. Foster is the nation's No. 5-ranked shot-blocker at 4.3 per game. As a team, the Utes top the MWC and rank No. 26 in the NCAA at 6.4 rejections per contest. Leading the Utes in assists is senior guard Luka Drca (Belgrade, Serbia) with 3.9 per game, while ranking second in scoring on the squad at 10.8 ppg.
San Diego State enters the game following a 67-62 comeback win at home against TCU last Saturday. Billy White was the Aztecs' leading scorer as they erased an 11-point second-half deficit to remain unbeaten at home (9-0). White is the Aztecs' top scorer on the season at 12.1 ppg, while Kawhi Leonard is their top rebounder at 9.3 per contest. D.J. Gay leads SDSU in assists with 2.9 helpers per game.
Utah head coach Jim Boylen holds a 51-33 (.602) record in his third year at Utah. San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher holds a 186-145 (.562) record in his 11-year tenure with the Aztecs.
Halftime presentation: At halftime, the Alumni Association and Utah Athletics will be presenting the Utah Food Bank with a check for $60,228 and thanking fans for donating 233,000 pounds to the food bank from rivalry week.
