SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team (10-9, 3-2 MWC) travels to Laramie, Wyo., Wednesday, looking to knock off the Cowboys (8-11, 1-4 MWC) on their home floor for the second straight year. Tip-off at Arena-Auditorium is slated for 7 p.m. MT. The game will not be televised but can be heard live on KALL 700 AM and at www.kall700sports.com.
The Utes are coming off a convincing 71-54 home victory against Air Force on Saturday. Freshman guard Marshall Henderson (Hurst, Texas) was Utah's top scorer as he tied his career-high with 22 points.
The Utes are 1-1 this season in conference road games, 2-3 including all away contests.
Utah owns a 93-73 (.560) record all-time against the Cowboys, including a 32-48 (.400) mark in Laramie. The Utes have won the last three meetings against Wyoming, all coming last year, as Utah swept the regular-season pairings and topped UW in the MWC semifinals as well. Last season's meeting on the Cowboys' home floor saw Utah capture an 80-70 win, which snapped a two-game losing streak in Laramie.
Utah's sophomore center David Foster (Lake Forest, Calif.) is the nation's No. 4-ranked shot-blocker at 4.4 rejections per game and is coming off a six-block game against Air Force. As a team, the Utes top the MWC and rank No. 11 in the NCAA at 6.6 rejections per contest.
Utah's leading scorer is junior guard Carlon Brown (Riverside, Calif.) at 12.9 points per game. Senior forward Kim Tillie (Cagnes-sur-Mer, France) is the Utes' top rebounder at 6.1 boards per contest. Leading the U. in assists is senior guard Luka Drca (Belgrade, Serbia) with 3.8 per game, while ranking third in scoring on the squad at 10.9 ppg.
Wyoming enters the game trying to end a three-game losing skid, falling to TCU, New Mexico and BYU, after picking up its first league victory against San Diego State. In their last outing at BYU, the Cowboys lost leading scorer Afam Muojeke (16.8 ppg)for the remainder of the season with a torn patella tendon. A.J. Davis is the squad's second-leading scorer with 10.9 ppg. Adam Waddell is Wyoming's top rebounder at 5.6 boards per contest, while JayDee Luster leads the team in assists with 4.6 per game.
Utah head coach Jim Boylen holds a 52-34 (.605) record in his third year at Utah. Wyoming head coach Heath Schroyer, also in his third year, holds a 39-43 (.476) record in his tenure with the Cowboys.
