SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah baseball team will host `An Evening with Bruce Hurst' at the Sheraton City Centre Hotel on March 15.
Hurst compiled a 145-113 record and a 3.92 ERA in 379 Major League games with the Red Sox (1980-88), Padres (1989-93), Rockies (1993) and Rangers (1994). The southpaw posted 11 or more victories in 10 straight seasons from 1983-92, winning a career-high 18 games with Boston in 1988. A native of St. George, Utah, he beat the Mets twice during the 1986 World Series and was named to the 1987 all-star game. Hurst was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
"I am excited to continue the tradition of opening our season with a chance for the baseball community and Utah boosters to get together for a special evening," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "Bruce is a Utah guy and fits right in line with the other guests we have had here - he is a tremendous person and was a great player."
The evening will feature a private reception at 6 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $100 per person or $1,000 per table. A live auction of sports memorabilia will begin after dinner. Featured items are a three-game series at Fenway Park and a trip to watch the USA Collegiate National Team.
"I am always excited to come back to Utah," Hurst said. "I hold Bill Kinneberg and the Utah program in high regard and I am looking forward to participating in the banquet."
