Game Notes - Game 3 vs. Weber State
2010-11 Utah Basketball Schedule
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team (2-0) will look for its first 3-0 start since the 2005-06 season Saturday as the Runnin' Utes host in-state rival and defending regular-season Big Sky Conference champion Weber State (1-1). Tip-off between the Runnin' Utes and the Wildcats is set for 4 p.m. MT at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Utah is fresh off a nine-point victory against last year's Big Sky tournament winner Montana, 80-71. The Utes were led by a pair of 20-point scorers in junior wing Will Clyburn (21) and junior guard Josh Watkins (20). Senior forward Jay Watkins tied his career high with 18 points, while sophomore Jason Washburn also hit double figures with 10 points, while collecting a career-high eight rebounds. Clyburn is averaging a team-best 17.5 points per game to go with 6.5 rebounds.
Weber State enters the game after defeating Colorado Christian, 97-73. The Wildcats also had a pair of 20-point scorers, as Damian Lillard went for 25 and Scott Bamforth poured in 20. Darin Mahoney led Weber State on the glass with a game-high eight boards. Lillard is averaging 26.5 points across WSU's first two games. The Wildcats' loss came at Utah State in their season opener, 77-65.
In the last meeting between Utah and Weber State, the Wildcats took an 83-76 win last year in Ogden, despite a school-record 10 blocks from Utah center David Foster and a double-double from Kim Tillie (20 pts/10 rebs). Lillard scored a game-high 28 points to the lead WSU to victory.
The last time these two squads met at the Huntsman Center, Utah captured a 74-64 victory in 2008.
Boylen, now in his fourth year at the helm for the Utes, owns a 58-42 (.580) record, including a 35-13 (.723) mark at home. Weber State is coached by fifth-year man Randy Rahe, who now holds a 78-48 (.619) record.
