SALT LAKE CITY - Utah baseball player C.J. Cron has been named to the Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America team. Cron was selected as the first-team designated hitter.
Cron earned first-team All-America honors last season from the NCBWA, Collegiate Baseball newspaper and Ping!Baseball. Cron was also the NCBWA's District VIII Player of the Year, the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and named as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, awarded to the top player in collegiate baseball.
Cron led the nation last year with 1.65 RBI per game. He also ranked in the top 10 nationally in slugging percentage (fifth, .817) and home runs per game (eighth, 0.41).
Cron is hitting .379 with 31 home runs and 139 RBI for his career.
Utah opens its 2011 baseball season at Cal on Feb. 18.
