SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah track and field team will be competing in the Wildcat Open on Thursday and Saturday at Weber State. The throwing events will be held on Thursday beginning at 3:00 p.m. MT, with the remaining events held Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Teams competing include No. 2 BYU, Utah Valley, Southern Utah, Weber State and Idaho State.
The weight throw event will be held first on Thursday. Senior Sarah Grimm holds the best mark on the team with a personal best of 60-0.25, which she set on Jan. 15, 2010 at the Bengal Shoot Out.
At the conclusion of the men's weight throw, the women's shot put will get underway. Freshman Nikkie Rudder has been consistently improving in the event and currently has a personal best of 45-10.5, which was set on Jan. 30, 2010 at the Bronco Invitational.
On Saturday, sophomore Klaudia Rokossa and freshman Theresa Waybright will kick off competition in the pole vault at 9:00 a.m. Sophomores Langley Iverson and Brianna LeRoy will be competing in the high jump beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The 55m hurdles will be the opening track event on Saturday, which is expected to start at 1:00 p.m. Freshman Angela Kaplar will be competing in the hurdles, followed by the 55m dash alongside teammate Whitney Wellington.
The Utes will have six athletes competing in the mile run. Junior Alexis Davis and freshman Rachel Schmalzle will compete in both the mile run and the 3000m run events.
