ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Brianna LeRoy of the University of Utah women's track and field team competed in the pentathlon Thursday afternoon at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships. She received fourth overall with a total of 3519 points, a new career best.
"Brianna did a great job today," said Head Coach Kyle Kepler. "That is how you like to start a big meet like this. She worked hard and had a lot of success in the 60-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run. This sends a positive message to the rest of our team and should get them even more excited about tomorrow."
In the 60m hurdles, LeRoy crossed the line in 9.04 for a new personal best to tally 902 points to her total score. She also set a new lifetime personal best in the 800m run with a time of 2:37.57 (601 points).
During the high jump, LeRoy tallied 783 points after a clearance of 5-4.5 (1.64m). In the long jump, she had a mark of 18-3.0 (5.56m) to earn 717 points towards her overall score. LeRoy had a toss of 32-1.5 in the shot put to earn 516 points.
At the end of the first day of competition, the overall team scoring is as follows:
1. BYU - 10 pts.
1. New Mexico - 10 pts.
3. Colorado State - 6 pts.
4. Utah - 5 pts.
5. TCU - 4 pts.
6. Air Force - 3 pts.
7. Wyoming - 1 pt.
